180hp Skyhawk, Blue and White.
The plane flies great, it’s a 172P from the 80’s. Engine runs up and idles fine, no burning oil smell, sips fuel. Interior is 5-6/10 but comfortable, does not detract from its airworthiness and I’ve seen worse. It could also use some exterior paint if that matters to you. Avionics are steam and old school radios, for me, not an issue, I learned on steam and fly with an iPad for EFB so it’s a non factor. I did my OpenAirplane universal checkout in this plane, this is what sets AFS apart, Darrall is an awesome CFI that regardless of your skill, you will learn something new. AFS is also receptive of feedback. Learning is a two way street. If you are renting this plane cold, add time to your preflight to review how the checklists are organized. So if service were a rating category, I would give them 4 stars, 4-5 stars training. My 4 star rating is a result of the entire experience, not just the plane. Also, the local procedures need to be updated as the chat has moved to a different frequency that AWO seems to be the only airport on the frequency.
I flew in N64184, a great old school C-172M model, with old school avionics, including a working ADF. Well taken care of. Good airplane.
