This 150 sports a serviceable interior and functional radios. Looking it over with the instructor before the 150 add-on checkout, there were minor issues. The biggest issue was that the rear panel in the cargo area was not connected. This could let gear in the back get aft and throw off weight and balance or jam controls. OK, we pushed a box against it to hold it in place. The aircraft flew just fine, with no systems malfunctions, although the yoke felt a bit odd.
It wasn't until the instructor departed and I was preflighting in greater detail with my son, that I discovered the passenger side door would not open from the inside. That could be remedied by opening the window to open the door. The final straw, though, was realizing the pilot's yoke felt a bit odd because there seemed to be a bushing missing where the yoke tube passes through the panel. I’m not an A & P, so I can’t say that’s actually the issue, but something potentially off with the primary flight controls was too much for me. We scrubbed the flight.
Because the staff had left, I couldn’t tell them about it and see their reaction. Both on the phone and in person, they had seemed quite helpful, so I assume either I’m being over-cautious or they actually weren’t aware of all these problems. Just be aware this 150 may be worn beyond your personal limits.
